Course DescriptionThis class keeps students engaged while creating a foundation of basic computer skills. Development of keyboarding skills focuses on ergonomics to improve both speed and technique using the Type to Learn program. The program engages the students while providing progress monitoring to allow for individual reteaching and enrichment. Students will become familiar with basic computer hardware, software and operating systems. They will be taught about cyber safety in relation to the internet and cell phones. Students will be introduced to two software applications, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Essential OutcomesKeyboarding: Students should be able to key at a rate of 20 WPM at 95% accuracy.
Basic Computer Knowledge: *Demonstrate an understanding of basic computer operations, hardware and software. *Identify major parts of a computer. *Continue to develop comfort with and skills using technology. Word Processing: Demonstrate a basic understanding of Microsoft Word; creating and formatting written documents, editing, and properly saving. Presentation Software: Show a basic understanding of PowerPoint, including creating pages, inserting images, and adding animations. Internet: Demonstrate an understanding of the internet, its benefits and dangers. |
